Port Everglades Sets One Day Record
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Saturday was a big day at Ft. Lauderdales' Port Everglades. More than 53,000 cruise passengers arrived or departed on eight ships, setting a new record for port terminal traffic on a single day.
An estimated 53,500 cruise passengers passed through the port, according to the Sun-Sentinel, which broke its previous record of 53,365 set back in March 2010.
According to port officials in their last fiscal year, which ended on Sept. 30, 2001, they saw a record 3.66 million multi-day cruise passengers pass through the terminals. They anticipate an equally active cruise season in 2012.
Twelve cruise lines and 45 cruise ships sail from Port Everglades including Carnival Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean International, Cunard Line, Holland America Line, ISE (Semester at Sea), Princess Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, and Silversea Cruises.
