DEERFIELD BEACH (CBSMiami) – A 7-year-old boy died on Saturday afternoon when he was found beneath the surface of the pool.
The boy, Maliq Singletary, was at a pool party in Deerfield Beach. He was there with his aunt, who was visiting a friend from church that had invited some people over for a pool party and cookout.
Around 6 p.m. all the kids were told to begin cleaning up and to exit the pool.
Singletary and his female cousin came out of the pool but then ran back and jumped in together. She came back above the water but he did not.
The homeowner rushed outside after being told what happened and pulled Maliq out of the water.
The boy's aunt and other attending adults performed CPR while paramedics were called.
Once Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue arrived on the scene they took over the resuscitation efforts.
Maliq was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center but was later pronounced dead.
Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating the case.
