Poll: Romney Opens 22 Point Lead In Fla.
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – It's beginning to look like the Florida Primary may be over before it even gets started January 31.
According to a new Rasmussen Poll, Mitt Romney is supported by 41 percent of the GOP electorate. That far outpaces his nearest rivals, Newt Gingrich at 19 percent and Rick Santorum at 15 percent.
Texas Congressman Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman are next in line with nine and five percent. Texas governor Rick Perry is dead last in the race at just two percent.
Rasmussen also found that Romney is leading Santorum by just 3 points in South Carolina over Santorum, 27-24 percent.
The declining poll numbers for Gingrich has prompted some to speculate that he may be planning to drop his campaign and throw his support behind Santorum.
Gingrich and Santorum have split the ultra-conservative vote in the GOP and a union between the two could give Romney serious trouble if Santorum can keep all of Gingrich's voters.
The survey by Rasmussen of likely Florida Republican primary voters was conducted Wednesday and has a margin of error of +/- 4 points.
