Poll Puts Rubio Atop The GOP VP Wish List
TRENTON, NJ (CBSMiami) - The GOP can't seem to figure out who it wants to head it's ticket this fall, but they still have time to think about who should take the number 2 spot on the ticket. As of Monday, the top choice has a Florida address.
US Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida) leads the VP Pack in a poll conducted by Fairleigh Dickenson University. The poll said Rubio's name is the one mentioned most often by voters when asked who should be the party's next VP nominee. Rubio was mentioned 66 times by voters who were not prompted for a name, or 8%.
Rubio, who calls Miami home, is often mentioned for Vice President, but he has said repeatedly that he plans to complete his term in the Senate, and is not interested in the White House at this time.
Number 2 on the list is a man who wants the big job, former US Senator Pat Santorum. He got 57 mentions, or 7% Favorite son Gov.
Chris Christie is third, with 47 mentions and 6%. Former Vide Presidential candidate Sarah Palin is fourth. Rounding out the pack is former House speaker for Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, with 32 mentions.
Mitt Romney, who is struggling in his bid to win the GOP Presidential nomination. did not make the top 5. Hw as 7th, beaten by Ron Paul.
One person cast his lot with Ronald Reagan, who las long since met his maker.
The Fairleigh Dickinson University poll of 799 registered Republican and independent voters nationwide was conducted by both landlines and cell phones from Feb. 6 through Feb.12, 2012, and has a margin of error of +/-3.5 percentage points.
