Poll: Players Name Tebow Most Overrated Player In NFL
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow has earned a new title among fellow NFL players, most overrated player in the NFL, according to a new Sports Illustrated poll of players.
The players, 180 of which voted, chose Tebow by a wide margin, giving him 34 percent of the vote for being the most overrated player. If that wasn't enough to bring New York Jets fans down, the number two player on the list is Jets starting quarterback Mark Sanchez, who tied with Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo.
Tebow's never been considered a franchise quarterback since he entered the league a few years ago. He was a winner in an offense tailored to his skills in college, but has had trouble transitioning into the NFL's pro-style offense where accurate passing is crucial.
Tebow succeeded last season after the Broncos rebuilt their offense into a more spread-option offense like Tebow used in college. He led the Broncos to the playoffs, but after getting blown out by the New England Patriots in the playoffs, he was quickly discarded in the offseason in favor of Peyton Manning.
This season, after a much ballyhooed trade to the Jets, Tebow has been almost invisible on the field. He's thrown for 32 yards and run for 76 yards in seven games for the Jets.
Still, Tebow's image in the NFL has been built largely on the back of his coverage by ESPN. For his part, Tebow has never actively sought out the intense media coverage given to him by outlets like ESPN. Tebow is widely considered a great teammate and is a hard worker both on and off the field.
