Poll: Obama & Romney Statistically Tied In Fla.
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The latest poll from Public Policy Polling gives President Barack Obama a one-point lead in Florida over Republican nominee Mitt Romney, but that is well within the poll's margin of error of +/- 3.7 percent, making the race a statistical tie.
According to the PPP poll, Obama leads among women, African-Americans and voters under 30. Romney is performing well with men, whites, and seniors. Romney also has a narrow lead with Hispanics and independents.
Floridians said they trust Romney over Obama to deal with the economy and they were split 49/48 over who to trust on foreign policy. The poll found Republicans slightly more enthusiastic, but that wasn't translating into the Florida Senate race.
Senator Bill Nelson heads into the final week of the race with an 8 point lead over Republican Connie Mack IV, according to the poll. Mack is underwater in favorability and Nelson is winning independent voters, despite Obama losing them in the presidential race, according to the poll.
According to Nate Silver's 538 blog, Romney currently has a 0.8 percent lead in the average of polls in Florida and is projected to carry the state. Silver currently gives Romney a 62 percent chance of winning Florida on November 6.
