Poll: Obama Much More Popular Than Congress
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – President Barack Obama is splitting public opinion on his performance as President, while Congressional approval numbers hit record lows in a new Washington Post poll.
According to the poll, 48 percent approve and disapprove of President Obama's job performance. Congress' numbers have nearly hit rock bottom as just 13 percent approve of its performance, while 84 percent disapprove of Congress' work.
Congress' approval rating is the lowest it's ever been dating back to 1974.
Democrats in Congress have a 12 point lead over Republicans in Congress when it comes to job approval, but the Democrats are polling at just 33 percent.
The poll found that Mitt Romney is leading the GOP field by 18 points over his closest competitor Newt Gingrich.
Romney received 35 percent, while Gingrich received 17 percent, Ron Paul received 16 percent, and Rick Santorum received 13 percent.
And while independents and Democrats have questioned Romney's work as a venture capitalist and his false job creation claims, GOP-leaning voters said his work as a corporate investor did more to create jobs than cut jobs, according to the Post poll.
