Poll: Newt Gingrich Opens Up Huge Lead In Florida
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – It's looking like Newt-mentum is exploding in the Sunshine State, according to the latest poll from Public Policy Polling.
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has quickly opened up a 30 point lead over former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.
In the poll, Gingrich captured 47 percent of the potential GOP voters compared to Romney's 17 percent.
The rest of the field broke down like this: Herman Cain (15 percent); Ron Paul (5 percent); Michele Bachmann (4 percent); Jon Huntsman (3 percent); Ricky Perry (2 percent); and Rick Santorum (1 percent).
According to PPP, Romney's fall in Florida has been fast. In polling done by the organization in September, Romney received 30 percent of the popular vote.
PPP also said that Romney's personal popularity is down by 14 points, dropping from 65 percent in the September poll to just 51 percent in the current poll.
Gingrich on the other hand is getting support from almost all age groups and is increasing among the tea party as well. Gingrich's favorability in Florida has also jumped to 72 percent in the latest poll.
