Poll: Latino Voters Give Obama 45 Point Lead
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – With the third and final debate in the books, both candidates are beginning the stretch run to the finish line in the 2012 presidential election. One of the most coveted demographics, Latino voters, seems to have found their candidate as well.
According to the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal/Telemundo poll, President Barack Obama leads Mitt Romney by a 70-25 percent margin among likely Latino voters. The numbers are almost exactly the same, 69-23, among registered Latino voters as well, according to the poll.
The numbers are consistent with a Latino Decisions poll that found 71 percent of likely Latino voters were going to vote for Obama, while 20 percent were certain to vote for Romney.
The NBC/WSJ/Telemundo poll found Romney continues to have an image problem with Hispanics. Forty-five percent of Latinos have a "very negative" view of Romney, up from 35 percent last month, according to the poll.
Recent overall polls have the race between Obama and Romney as a tie, but previously Republican strategists have said that if Romney can't carry the same number of Latino voters that John McCain did in 2008, he will have a nearly impossible road to capturing the White House.
