Poll: U.S. Divided Over Obama's Performance

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Americans are divided on President Barack Obama's overall job rating, according to a new poll.
The CBSNews/ New York Times poll released Tuesday showed 46 approve of the president's actions as he begins his last year in office while 47% disapprove.
While about 52 percent think the president's performance has been what they expected, nearly a third say it has been worse and more than half say the country is off on the wrong track.
Despite the overall outlook on the president's performance, 62% of Americans are in favor of his recent executive actions on gun control but 49% believe it was within his authority to take action.
The poll results come as President Obama is set to give his last State of the Union address Tuesday at 9 p.m. (EST)
The president's approval rating has hovered in the low to mid-40s for most of his second term.
Compared to past two-term presidents, President Obama's job approval rating is high than George W. Bush's was at a similar point in his presidency but lower than Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan.
