ST. PETERSBURG (CBSMiami/AP) — A police officer shot and killed an 18-year old who had shot him in the leg.
St. Petersburg police Chief Anthony Holloway says 18-year-old Austin Goodner was wanted in another shooting when he was killed Sunday night. Earlier in the day, a victim told police that Goodner had pulled a gun, shot him in the hand, and fled on his bicycle.
Officers went to Goodner's house. Police say that his parents told them their son wasn't there but that he suddenly appeared in the yard and shot the officer. Police say other officers confronted him, he fired again, and they returned fire, hitting him in the upper body.
The injured 40-year-old officer is recovering. His name hasn't been released.
Police and the state attorney's office are investigating.
