Police: Self-Described Music Promoter Accused Of Molesting 15-Year-Old
HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) - Hollywood Police say a man who claimed to be a South Florida music promoter molested an underage girl in an apartment where he was staying.
In court Thursday, a judge called Jonathan Borrero "a danger to the community." Borrero is locked up in the Broward County Jail on $225,000 bond.
Police say Borrero met the girl while she was waiting for the bus earlier this year. Investigators say he claimed to be a music producer and was in need of interns. A police report says the girl told Borrero that she was 15 and he told her, "she did not look 15 that she looked older."
Investigators say Borrero bought the girl some pastries and convinced her to return to the apartment where he was staying then he molested her. The police report says the girl screamed throughout the ordeal and repeatedly asked Borrero to stop.
Eventually he did, police say, and the girl left.
At a court hearing on Thursday, Judge John Hurley said this is not the first sex crime that Borrero has been charged with.
"You allegedly falsely imprisoned another female and committed a lewd act on another female," the judge said, before adding, "You're 29 years old. It appears that you're right now sexually abusing women."
A man who knows Borrero but did not want to give his identity said the charges are appalling.
"I think it's horrible what he did," the man told CBS 4's Carey Codd. "It's a bad thing."
The man said Borrero does work in the music industry. He said in light of the four felony charges Borrero faces, it makes sense for Borrero to have such a high bond.
"He'll be there for a very long time," the man said. "It's a good thing. Maybe he'll learn a lesson."
Borrero's sister, Jackie Storm, spoke to CBS 4 News by phone.
"We don't know what happened and we are all shocked," said Jackie Storm. "He wasn't raised like this. We feel horrible for everyone involved and we're truly sorry for any pain and suffering the young woman endured."
CBS4 News checked Borrero's criminal record and it shows he's been arrested several times in Miami-Dade.
