Injured Suspect In Police-Involved Shooting Captured
SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade police have captured an injured suspect who hid from police for hours after he tried to run over an officer who was forced to fire, according to investigators.
Miami-Dade police said it was just after 6:00 a.m. Friday when an officer tried to pull over a stolen black Ford F-150 pick-up truck in the area of SW 216th Street & 112th Avenue in Southwest Miami-Dade.
Suddenly, police said, the man in the truck tried to run over the officer.
"When the officer was approaching the vehicle, that's when the subject utilized the vehicle and attempts to strike the officer," said Miami-Dade police spokesman Det. Alvaro Zabaleta.
The unnamed officer fired his weapon at the suspect but he sped away westbound with police in hot pursuit.
That pursuit came to an end at SW 232nd Street and 187th Avenue when the driver bailed out of the truck and ran away.
A police perimeter was set-up in the area utilizing the resources of the Miami-Dade Special Response Team, K-9 units and a police helicopter.
"Crime scene has been processing the vehicle. We did find some evidence of blood which of course leads us to believe he's injured. It could be from the accident or gunshots," said Det. Zabaleta.
Shortly before 12:30 p.m., the individual was taken into custody. He was taken to a local hospital for medical attention and is listed in stable condition.
