Police Seek Murder Suspect As Family Makes Plea For Help
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade homicide detectives are reaching out to the public to help find the man wanted for the murder of a 21-year-old man in Southwest Miami-Dade.
Christopher Curry, 17, is wanted for the murder of 21-year-old Mira Smith, who was shot and killed in the 10200 block of SW 173rd Terrace on Saturday, August 10th around 10:30 p.m., according to police.
"He was the life of the house," Anne Smith said about her son. "If someone was in a bad mood he would uplift them."
Police say Smith, known as "Rotor" in his Richmond Heights neighborhood, was walking from a store to his aunt's house when two men jumped out of some bushes and opened fire. Smith's older brother Michael Baker was shot in the leg.
"Once I got shot I saw my little brother on the floor screaming, but I couldn't help him, as I looked back I saw the gunman running after me with a gun," Baker said.
Smith's mother told reporters it's possible the suspect, Christopher Curry, may have had a feud with someone who knew her son, but at this time police do not have a motive for the murder.
While police try to piece together a motive, Anne Smith has a message for the men who killed her son.
"You just don't know how you tore up this family apart," she said. "You really tore this family apart."
Anyone with information on the case should call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered in the case.
