MIAMI -- Florida Highway Patrol has identified the suspect that led several law enforcement officers on a high speed pursuit before jumping out of the pickup truck, running away and jumping into a canal.

The suspect has been identified as Marc Anderson.

The search for Anderson began around 10 a.m. and lasted for at least an hour and included him treading water for several minutes in the northwest Miami-Dade canal.

Anderson was seen running through a neighborhood before jumping into a canal and swimming in the water for at least 30 minutes as law enforcement officers waited in the area.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the incident stemmed from a trooper's attempt to pull over a suspected stolen white Dodge in the area of NW 103rd Street and NW 32nd Avenue.

According to a written statement, Anderson failed to stop and sped off, prompting a pursuit that lasted until the trooper lost the man.

Anderson parked the vehicle in the area of NW 2nd Avenue and S. Biscayne River Drive and ran from the scene.

A Miami-Dade Police Department helicopter found the Anderson a short time later as he walked through the neighborhood in an attempt to elude officers.

Live video from Chopper 4 showed the man walking through homes before he jumped into a canal.
