Police Searching For Armed Carjackers
NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - A 20-year-old Northwest Miami-Dade woman whose car was stolen by two carjackers with two guns is speaking out as Miami-Dade Police release new surveillance tape of the suspects.
The incident is prompting a safety alert following the incident that happened at 7:15 a.m. on March 27th outside the victim's apartment at Northwest 64th Street and 20th Avenue.
"I feel something like this happening right in front of your home, it's crazy," said Quanisha, who is one of the victims and who asked that her last named not be used and that we not show all of her face.
Quanisha is worried about her safety because the suspects have not been caught. But she wanted to speak out in case it helps Miami-Dade Police find them. And she hopes the release of the new tape will help.
Quanisha told CBS4's Peter D'Oench the two suspects confronted her and a 24-year-old friend as they were getting into her silver Volkswagen Jetta.
"Before I could put the car into reverse, two boys opened the door. I looked down and then he opened the door and I saw a gun," she said.
Quanisha told Miami-Dade Police that the suspects told her not to move as they pointed their two black handguns at her and patted her down, looking for something to steal.
"What did you think when you saw the gun?" asked D'Oench.
"I really didn't do anything, because I was in shock that this happened. I have never been in a situation like this before," said Quanisha.
"Were you scared?" D'Oench asked.
"Yes," said Quanisha.
"What went through your mind? What were you thinking?" asked D'Oench.
"That they don't shoot," she said.
Then she said she was surprised by the behavior of one of the suspects.
"He wasn't really saying anything, but he seemed gentle, even though he had a gun," she said. "He didn't take anything from me because I had nothing. But he robbed my friend of her wallet and her bank cards. I think he used the bank cars too after that."
"Then he was asking where is the rest of your cash," said Quanisha. "And my friend gave it to him."
Quanisha said the suspects should not be on the street.
"I feel like we need to catch these people," she said.
"What would it mean to you if they were caught?" asked D'Oench.
"It would mean a lot," she said. "It would make me very happy."
Quanisha told D'Oench that police had recovered her Volkswagen Jetta.
She showed him the dents and scratches that were found in the front and back of the car after police recovered it.
