Police Release Sketches Of Kendall Puppy-Nappers
WEST KENDALL (CBS4) - Miami-Dade police have released sketches of two men they say puppy-napped a dog from a kennel in West Kendall.
The theft happened last Tuesday in front of the West Point K-9 Academy at 5801 SW 125th Avenue.
Melissa Vega said around 4:30 p.m. a man walked into the kennel, which is owned by her father, and asked about dog training. She said he then asked if he could take a picture of her with Bailey, a 13-week old male Border Terrier mix which she had just adopted.
Vega followed the man outside and watched as he got in a white Dodge Ram truck and handed her dog to a second man who was sitting in the passenger seat. Vega said after taking a couple of pictures of Bailey with his cell phone, the man hit the gas and sped off.
"It just makes me sick to my stomach," said Vega. "I was in the middle of telling him that I adopted him from the Humane Society. I feel sick that this happened, just sad and horrible. Like a mother was to a child, that's how I felt. He could have gone anywhere else and found a puppy."
Vega said she grabbed on to truck as the puppy thief drove away.
"He peeled out and I fell on the ground, scraping my knee," said Vega. "He then smashed into another vehicle and took off."
Both men are described as being between 18 and 24 years old with thin builds. Anyone who recognizes them from the sketch is urged to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
