Police Nab Suspected Miami Beach Business Burglar

MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) - Miami Beach Police say they have the man responsible for several burglaries to local businesses.

Willie Gray, 22, was taken to jail Friday afternoon.

"This gentleman was out of control," said Det. Garry Larkin of the Miami Beach Police Property Crimes Squad.

Surveillance photos from all across Miami Beach show a burglar, in the middle of the day, robbing local businesses since October.

"And in some cases he burglarized two businesses on the same day," said Sgt. David Hernandez of Miami Beach Police.

Police say Gray burglarized five different businesses. The biggest hit was to Aura Restaurant on Lincoln Road.

"The take on that one was $25,000," said Det. Larkin.

Gray allegedly entered through the back door and reached into an open safe.

Over at the Osklen store, also on Lincoln Road, police say Gray stole an iPod Nano and an employee's sunglasses.

"This person was maliciously going around our city, and taking advantage of our businesses and our residents," said Deborah Doty of Miami Beach Police.

Over at Las Olas Café, Gray is accused of going into an employee's office and taking $2,000 from a cabinet. Police say Gray stole from two other businesses. He is accused of stealing about $30,000 in cash.

Police say Gray confessed to spending the money on drugs.
