Police: Mother And Son Victims Of Margate Murder-Suicide
MARGATE (CBSMiami) – Margate Police released the names of the people involved in an apparent murder-suicide Saturday night.
Robert Halik, 59, and his mother Jindra Halik, 88, lived together at the home where the incident took place, according to police.
A spokesperson told CBS4 News, officers received a phone call just after 6:30 p.m. from a man that said there would be a murder suicide and hung up the phone.
Police went to the address at 1700 NW 80th Avenue, #103.
While there, the spokesperson said the officers saw a man come out of the apartment and look around.
After that, police said he went back inside and closed the door.
When officers tried to reach the man, they reported hearing gunshots.
The Margate Police Department Special Response Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team responded.
Negotiators attempted to make contact with the man, but were unable to do so.
Once officers were able to go inside the home, several hours later, they discovered the mother and son dead.
What prompted the deadly scene is under investigation.
