Police: Mother Accidentally Runs Over, Kills 1-Year-Old Boy

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – North Miami police are investigating the death of a 1-year-old boy who was run over by his mother.

The accident happened at 128th St. and NE 13th Ave. early Monday evening.

According to police, the mother was backing up when she ran the toddler over.

Police couldn't say whether the child was playing outside or had come out of the house.

CBS4's Tiani Jones was told besides investigating the accident, the department is also helping the family deal with this tragic event.

"We are here on the scene of a tragic accident. The mother was backing up her car in the driveway and accidentally struck her own son. Her son who is 1-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene. We are here investigating and were not just here investigating but we're also here providing support for the family who is going through a very rough sad time at this point," North Miami Police Cmdr. Rafael Estrugo said.

Police do not suspect this was anything more than a horrible accident.

They do not expect any charges to be filed against the mother.
