Police Identify Man Killed In Hialeah Police-Involved Shooting
HIALEAH (CBSMiami) – An altercation inside a Hialeah home led to a deadly police involved shooting Sunday night.
Hialeah Police have identified the man shot as Arturo Jorge Guzman, 51.
Around 11 p.m., officers were sent to a residence at 4616 East 8th Lane after receiving an emergency call about some type of disturbance in the home. The 911 call was from a woman who said a man inside the house had a gun.
"Moments after officers arrived they shoot a man inside the house," said police spokesman Carl Zogby. "He has expired from his injuries. At first he was rushed to Jackson Hospital, they treated him but he has expired from multiple gunshot wounds."
Police have not said what led up to the shooting or if there was anyone else inside the home at the time of the shooting. They also didn't say if the man was armed when their officers arrived.
Neighbors said this was not the first time the police had been called to the home.
"It may be a domestic dispute. We have spoken to a female who is a possible, potential, victim in this situation," said Zogby.
This was the second police involved in less than a week in the city. Last Tuesday, an officer shot a man in the parking lot of a Publix.
Hialeah police said one of their officers was working a security detail at the store when he heard a woman screaming outside. When he went to check it out, he called for back-up. Police said 30-year old Javier Diaz had just attempted to steal a woman's purse.
When he saw the approaching police, he reportedly jumped into his car and tried to escape. In the process, he almost ran over one of the officers. Police fired on the car and Diaz was struck multiple times.
He was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center.
Diaz has been charged with first degree attempted murder on a law enforcement officer, attempted strong armed robbery and resisting arrest without violence.
