Police Investigating Possible New Evidence In Missing Miramar Mother Case
MIRAMAR (CBS4) – It's been nearly a week since the family of Vilet Torrez has heard from her and now police may have found new evidence in her disappearance.
While it took police days to get a search warrant, key evidence may have been sitting outside the house all along. CBS4 cameras captured investigators photographing strange marks on bricks surrounding a flower bed. The marks were so concerning, police decided to take the bricks for further examination. On the front door, you can also see faint stains or smears.
"For something like this to happen, it's very shocking. Very shocking," said neighbor Desmond Falla.
Falla lives right next door. Police spoke to him and his family, investigating how 38-year-old Vilet Torrez disappeared. She's a mother of three and the last time anyone saw her was almost a week ago, on Friday. That's when Falla saw her too.
"Nothing, nothing strange," said Falla.
Torrez lived Miramar and left behind her children, her family, and all of her friends.
"If your sister, your brother, your close relative vanishes into thin air, you're distraught," said Javier Blanco, Torrez's brother. "You want to know what's happening."
During a Wednesday press conference with Miramar Police, new pictures of Torrez were released showing the mother with a big smile on her face. Her family said that how she always is at home.
"She was always happy, never angry, even when things should have angered her," Blanco said, on the verge of tears. "She was always happy; she was always positive; optomistic about everything, about life, that's how she succeeded."
Investigators told CBS4 they're checking to see if her credit cards have been used. The last time anyone saw her was Friday, when she had dinner with a friend. Now, cops are following every lead and scrape of information they receive.
"We're just following anything that we can find out from family, friends, surveillance, from the phones, anything and everything," said Miramar Detective Jonathon Zeller.
