MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A tragic scene in Miami on Saturday after an elderly couple was found dead inside their home.
Police have a 55-year-old man who is believed to be their son in custody.
Responding to reports of the elderly couple deceased, Miami-Dade Police arrived Saturday to the home at 14101 S.W. 147th Court to discover Gumersindo Perez Rodriguez barricaded inside.
Special Response Team officers were summoned and made entry into the home, eventually convincing Rodriguez to surrender himself without incident.
"I know its older people live there," said neighbor Maritza Arce. "They're always cleaning outside. I've been living on this street for 16 years and I never saw anything like this. It doesn't make sense. You're supposed to protect your parents when they do everything for you in life."
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the couple was stabbed to death.
It's believed Perez Rodriguez killed his parents.
Neighbor Delio Dominguez knows the couple and Perez Rodriguez. This news of the couple's murder possibly by their own son is surprising.
"Very good person, he is a good person," said Dominguez. "You talk to him, he was a real nice person."
Other neighbors were also in shock when hearing of what happened on the normally quiet street.
"It doesn't make sense" said neighbor Maritza Arce. "You're supposed to protect your parents when they do everything for you in life."
"Waking up to helicopters, the SWAT team and cops running, it's really sad," said neighbor Oscar Alarcon. "People that you've seen for the last decade or so, you don't suspect something like this."
An investigation is on-going.
