Hollywood Woman's Son Arrested, Considered Suspect In Her Death
HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) – Hollywood homicide detectives have arrested the son of a woman murdered in her home and are considering him the suspect in her suspicious death.
Jason Kertesz,29, was arrested on an unrelated charge of violating his probation. Police confirm he is also the prime suspect in the death of Irene Keresz, 61.
Kertesz was found in her home by her husband in the 2400 block of NW 57th Way around 9:00 p.m. Saturday. Her husband called police, according to Lt. Diana Pereira.
"Officers responded to a call of an unconscious female. When they arrived they saw a suspicious scene and that it did not appear that the woman died from natural causes," said Pereira.
Police have released very few details about their investigation, including how Kertesz died.
Hollywood Police confirmed to CBS 4 News that they have been tracking Jason Kertesz, 29, since he used his mother's credit card at a gas station on Saturday night. Police said Kertesz was also driving his mother's rental car. Her car had been stolen in the past few weeks.
A check of state records reveals that Jason Kertesz has been arrested numerous times since 2000.
CBS 4 cameras captured one of his arrests in March 2006 when Kertesz led police on a chase through the streets of Miami-Dade and Broward. He was arrested for grand theft of a motor vehicle and aggravated fleeing and eluding. He was sentenced to four years in prison.
Records show he left prison in January 2010.
Irene Kertesz worked as a secretary at St. Lawrence Catholic School in North Miami Beach for the last 12 years.
"She was wonderful and everybody loved that woman," said Father William Ebert.
Kertesz's neighbors, however, seemed to know very little about her or her husband.
"Very quiet. She didn't mix with anybody, they weren't very friendly," said Luci Rosato.
"I don't know her personally. Just to hear that, however, I'm shocked," said Karlos Puente
