Police Pursuit Through Miami Streets Ends With Man In Custody

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A suspected carjacker is in custody after leading police on a chaotic and dangerous chase up and down South Florida highways Thursday morning.

The pursuit began at NW 27th Avenue and Opa-locka Boulevard after the victim spotted his stolen car and notified police.

Xavier Parker says his Mazda sedan was stolen Tuesday.

"I just got that car on Saturday. I was furious, hot, mad," Parker told CBS4.

The suspect took off after locking eyes with police in Opa-locka.

He sped down 95, the Palmetto and then he traveled to I-75 and the 112. Sometimes exceeding speeds of over 100 miles per hour, while weaving in and out of traffic and clipping cars in the process.

The driver surrendered, arms in the air and laid down on the ground in a neighborhood off the 112 Expressway.

Watch video of the pursuit:

"The way we saw this individual drive today it was unreal, but no one was injured and the subject wasn't injured," said Miami-Dade police detective Argemis Colome.

The suspect is in jail, facing several felonies.

Xavier Parker says he has no insurance and is trying to figure out what he'll do next.

"The Bumper is messed up. It won't crank. A green fluid is leaking and it has a flat tire. He played with my car," said Parker.
