Police Have Suspect In Shooting Of Homestead Boy
HOMESTEAD (CBSMiami) – A 10-year-old boy is recovering after he was shot Saturday night in the Seapines area of Homestead.
Sunday afternoon police spokesman Det. Roy Rutland they had the suspected shooter in custody.
The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. The injured boy's mother, Felicia Day, said her older son got into an argument with a group of teens walking by their house to a party down the street. The woman said looked to be around 15 or 16 years old. At one point, one of the teens drew a gun handgun and started shooting, that's when the younger boy was hit.
"I ran outside because I knew my kids was outside, so I wanted to go outside to make sure they was okay," said Day.
But her younger son was not.
"He ran in and he was shot," said Day. "He was shot one time with a .22 and the bullet traveled. It came back in and it went out the other way so it left four holes in his buttocks."
"We were playing football, me and my cousin, and then the boys came right there, they started talking mess to my brother, and then my brother got mad and told them get away from my house," said Jamel Brown. "They started shooting and they shot me and then I ran into the house I told my mom my butt was hurting."
The injured boy was taken to Miami Children's Hospital and released the following day.
Police have not released the name of the person they've taken into custody for the shooting or revealed their age.
