Police: Driver Struck Two People Within Minutes, Killing One
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) — Fort Lauderdale Police are investigating two separate accident scenes on a major South Florida roadway that left two people injured, one fatally.
According to police, a driver was heading eastbound towards the beach on West Broward Boulevard around 8:40 p.m. Friday night when he thought he hit something near 7th Avenue.
When he decided to make a u-turn around at 5th Avenue and W. Broward Boulevard to return to the scene where he thought he hit something, police said he struck another person who was possibly riding a bicycle.
The person struck at 5th Avenue was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition.
The person that was struck at 7th Avenue was killed.
"It is all convoluted right now, we have a lot of things we are trying to sort out," said Det. DeAnna Greenlaw
The identity of the driver and the people he allegedly hit have not been released.
Traffic in the area is gridlocked as police continue to investigate.
Police said they hope to find surveillance video that will help clear-up the details of the scene.
