Police Dog Sniffs Out 13-lbs Of Pot In Mail
BIG COPPITT KEY (CBS4) – K9 police officer Deja proved the nose knows Friday when she found 13-pounds of marijuana in a package mailed to a Monroe County man.
Construction worker Jason Carl Dascott, 31, was allegedly shipped the green stuff in vacuum-packed bags by FedEx, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
It began when Monroe County Sheriff's Special Investigations unit was tipped to the possible shipment Friday. Detectives then arrived at through FedEx office with their K-9 drug-sniffing officer, Deja, who found the package addressed to Dascott on Ave C on Big Coppitt Key.
Once a search warrant was granted police found 10 bags of the green herb that weighed-in at 13-pounds inside the package.
Detectives then delivered the box to its intended destination, where Dascott allegedly accepted it. When deputies returned with yet another warrant they found the pot plus an additional amount and a scale with illegal drug residue on it.
Dascott, who is on probation for a second degree murder in West Palm Beach, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, and more arrests may be coming.
