Police: Coral Springs Mom Used Stick To Strike 9-Year-Old Son
CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) – A Coral Springs woman was arrested and charged with child abuse after she allegedly used a large stick to strike a nine-year-old child.
Coral Springs officers were called to Hunt Elementary for an abuse report September 13.
A complaint affidavit stated Bernadette Alexandre, 30, was arrested for the incident that happened in the 7500 block of NW 44th Court September 11.
Alexandre is the child's mother and she admitted to police she hit him with a stick on his face, arms and torso.
The child told police, he has been hit with a large stick before and prefers his mother use a belt because it hurts less.
The complaint affidavit stated the child had a bruise on his cheek just below the eye socket and another on his forearm approximately eight to ten inches long. A third bruise, police said, was apparently visible on his back and approximately three to six inches long.
Authorities said Alexandre, a citizen of Haiti, admitted using the stick was excessive.
