Families Grieve As Police Continue Searching For Answers In Deadly Shooting Between Drivers On Flamingo Road
DAVIE (CBSMiami) – Condolences are pouring in for 41-year-old Keith Byrne, who was killed Friday in what is believed to be a road rage incident in Davie.
According to his former wife, Byrne was a father of three and a retired Marine Corps lance corporal.
"His kids were his life. He loved them more than life itself," said Kerry Byrne. "He was playful and goofy and took care of all kids. Everyone was welcome at our house."
On Friday Byrne was in his white truck heading to his mother's house in Davie.
She said Byrne was heading south on Flamingo road south of 595 when he had an encounter with a man in a BMW.
While they were stopped there was an exchange of gunfire.
Kerry Byrne says Keith Byrne was on the phone with a friend who heard what happened next.
"He said 'I just cut someone off. My bad.' The friend heard a gunshot and Keith said 'I've been shot' and then he heard more gunshots." she said.
The other man involved in the shooting is 22-year-old Andre Sinclair Jr. He died over the weekend at the hospital.
His brother posting a message saying, "My brother was in a road rage where he was shot multiple times in the chest. On life support... the doctor pulled the plug."
Kerry Byrne says Keith Byrne was protecting himself when he fired his gun.
"That's the only thing that makes sense to us," she said.
While Davie police continue their investigation, Keith Byrne's family is organizing a military burial at the national cemetery in Lake Worth.
His Marine Corps friends will travel to South Florida for the service.
"He was a likable guy. People liked him," said Kerry Byrne.
