One In Custody After BSO Chase On I-95
FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - Broward Sheriff's deputies were involved in a chase on I-95 in Broward County Thursday afternoon.
The chase, which went south on the highway, involved two females in gray Lexus.
The sheriff's office said it began just before 3:15 p.m. at a convenience store at 2801 W. Broward Blvd. A sheriff's detective, acting on a tip about a possible drug deal, approached a grey Lexus and began speaking with the driver, later identified as 57-year old Carol Pritchard.
At one during their conversation, the sheriff's office said Pritchard put the car in reverse and hit the gas, striking the detective with the open door.
The deputy was briefly caught in the door as the car backed up, but he was able to free himself when the driver put the car in drive and sped off.
Pritchard made her way to I-95 and headed south.
Working together, sheriff's deputies in their patrol cars formed rolling road blocks to bring the car to a stop just north of Sheridan Street.
The operation brought southbound traffic to a crawl on the highway as drivers slowed down to see what was going on.
Pritchard and her 14-year-old daughter were taken into custody. Crack cocaine was recovered from the Lexus.
Pritchard will likely face charges of possession of cocaine and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, among other things. It's unclear if her daughter will be charged.
