Police: Cab Driver Shot Multiple Times Is Recovering
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Police in Fort Lauderdale are investigating a shooting that involved a cab driver and an unknown subject.
The incident took place at 533 NW 14th Avenue Saturday afternoon.
Police said the subject shot the cab driver multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Witnesses said they heard three gunshots in the Sistrunk neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale.
Police haven't said whether the gunman was trying to be picked-up by the taxi driver.
A neighbor who did not want to reveal his name said he knew the taxi driver.
"I know he's the neighborhood cab guy," said the man. "He drives and works this beat on a regular basis. He's a nice guy."
The man added crime is common in the community.
"There is always these kinds of things taking place within the area," said the man.
The victim has been taken to a hospital where he is recovering from injuries, police said.
Police said no new information would be released until Monday.
