LAKELAND (CBSMiami) -- Authorities near Tampa want to alert the South Florida community about a man wanted for murder who's believed to be hiding out in his hometown of Miami.
Jamaal John Smith, 25, is wanted by the Polk County Sheriff's Office in the shooting of four people in Lakeland, which left three of them dead.
His last known address was 35 N.W. 44th Street in Miami and officials think he has returned home to hide out.
He's facing several charges including three counts of first-degree murder after David Washington, 24, Eneida Branch, 31, and Angelica Guadalupe Castro, 23, were found shot to death in a home on January 6th. A fourth man, Felix Campos, 18, survived a gunshot to the face.
Investigators said Smith and two other men were inside the home just before the shooting when an altercation broke out between the suspects and Washington. The noise awoke Campos, the only survivor, who was sleeping in a bedroom.
According to police, that's when one of the suspects entered the bedroom and shot Campos in the face. He told detectives that he pretended to be dead as the men then shot and killed the three other victims.
Through the help of Miami-Dade Police, those two other suspects, Andrew Joseph and Jonathan Alcegaire, were taken into custody.
