PlayStation 4 Hits Store Shelves Friday
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) – With Sony's PlayStation 4 hitting shelves Friday, and Microsoft's Xbox One release next week, the two gaming systems are sure to compete for holiday shoppers' dollars in the upcoming weeks.
The highly anticipated PlayStation 4 was made available to the public at midnight.
Gaming fans across the U.S. lined up at some retail stores to be one of the first to purchase the gaming machine, which retails at $399.
Sony expects to sell 5 million units of the PlayStation 4 by the end of its fiscal year in March. The PlayStation 3, in comparison, sold 3.5 million units in that time period seven years ago.
The Xbox One, which will be released next week, which features an updated Kinect motion sensor, will cost $500. Microsoft declined to offer a sales outlook for Xbox One through the holidays, but demand should be comparable, says Wedbush analyst Michael Patcher. He expects 3 million Xbox Ones to be sold through December and 4.5 million through March.
