Plantation Officer Named New Tallahassee Police Chief
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) - A top South Florida cop has been tapped to taken the reigns of the Tallahassee Police Department.
Tallahassee City Manager Anita Favors Thompson has announced that the city is hiring Plantation deputy police chief Michael DeLeo to take over the department.
The department has come under fire for its handling of the sexual assault investigation into Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston. The department waited 11 months before handing over information about the case to prosecutors.
The previous police chief, Dennis Jones, abruptly retired earlier this year amid an uproar over how the department handled a drunken driving arrest. The woman arrested wound up with a broken bone in her face after officers slammed her into a police car and then threw her to the ground.
