Plantation Church Targeted By Thieves Again
PLANTATION, Fla. (CBS4) - For the second time this year, a Plantation church has been targeted by thieves.
Surveillance video from the Praise Tabernacle International Church showed a pair of men struggling to carry a generator from a storage unit at the church to a waiting car.
Police said in Tuesday's burglary the men stole two generators worth approximately $750 apiece.
The crime was so exhausting that at one point in the video -- one of the thieves had to stop and take a break.
"It was almost comical," said Pastor D. H. Dawkins. "He laid down on the ground--took a breather, got himself back up together to finish loading up what doesn't belong to him."
What isn't comical to Pastor Dawkins is the damage done to his church. Earlier this year, thieves stole air conditioning units. The new units at the church are kept under lock and key.
"It can be discouraging that here we are again," Dawkins said.
In Tuesday's crime, the thieves pried open a storage unit behind a locked gate. The church's surveillance cameras captured the bad guys in the act.
Church music director Mickey Platt said these crooks need to be caught.
"They have no respect," Platt said. "They have no respect for the house of God, first and foremost and they have no respect for themselves."
Pastor Dawkins said the bad acts of a few will not prevent his church from continuing its' good work.
"Two generators might be stolen but the real generator is on the inside," Dawkins said.
Detectives with Plantation police are working to solve this crime and to figure out if this week's burglary is related to the burglary earlier this year.
