Plane With Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent On Board Makes Emergency Landing
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho and several other passengers were on a flight that had to make an emergency landing Thursday night.
Carvalho tweeted that American Airlines flight 3454 left Tallahassee headed to Miami, but was forced to land in Tampa after a loud explosion and smoke on the plane.
"Alberto M. Carvalho @MiamiSup In for emergency landing after taking off from Tallahassee after loud explosion and smoke. Attempting to land in Tampa."
The plane landed normally at 9:30 p.m., said American Airlines spokeswoman Laura Masvidal. Masvidal said there was a smell of smoke, but she was not aware of an explosion.
There is no word on what caused the smell.
American Airlines flight 3454 is an Embraer 145 and it had 46 passengers and 3 crew members.
