Pinecrest Police Looking For Trio Of Bumbling Burglars
MIAMI (CBS4) - A home invasion caught on camera showed a trio of burglars determined to get into a Pinecrest home, but who left with less than they expected.
"Was a nightmare, was really a nightmare," said the homeowner. "When you see that somebody can trespass in your house you don't feel safe."
Pinecrest Police are looking for the three men involved in the armed burglary on SW 102nd Street. The homeowner was on vacation for the weekend when the break-in happened back in February.
"They were very determined," said Detective Alexandra Martinez with the Pinecrest Police Department. "They knew the house was empty, it was a holiday weekend and they really wanted to get into this house."
The surveillance video caught the men casing the house before they rang the call box. When no one answered, two of the men were shown going around the back to kick a door open, to no avail.
The men then threw rocks and tried to pound a pole into the window, which was made of shatter-proof glass. After 30 minutes of failed attempts, one of the suspects pulled out a gun and fired two shots into the window.
"Through those bullet holes they were able to put some kind of bar in there to make the hole bigger; one of them reaches in to the high impact glass and opens the interior," said Detective Martinez.
The men rushed into the home only to rush out several seconds later, because they had set off the motion detector alarm.
The crooks left empty-handed.
Police believe the trio may have been involved in other burglaries around South Florida and they want them off the streets.
"Because they have a weapon they are a major threat to our community so it's very important we get these guys," said Detective Martinez.
If you have any information on the identity of the trio contact the Pinecrest Police Department at 305-234-2100 or Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
