Pill Mill Database Still Supported By Senate
TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) - Standing in opposition to GOP Governor Rick Scott and House Speaker Dean Cannon, Senate President Mike Haridopolos reiterated his belief that the pill mill database must stay intact.
"We have no interest whatsoever in scrapping that database," Haridopolos said Wednesday.
Haridopolos is joined in his defense of the pill mills by Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. Both say the pill mills work well in other states.
"I strongly believe that we have to get a handle on this," Haridopolos said.
Florida has become the pill mill capital of the United States and brings in more prescription pain killing drugs than any other state in the country.
Scott said he opposes the bill on privacy grounds. But, if the bill goes through and Florida is able to crack down on the pill mills, it will put a major dent into the profits of several drugmakers.
