Pick-Pocketing Pair Sought By BSO

POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) -- The Broward Sheriff's Office is warning residents of Pompano Beach to be on the look out for a gang of pick-pocketers, particularly targeting elderly women.

The suspects often work in pairs and strike mostly while women are shopping, lifting wallets out of the victim's purses.

The thieves are often long gone before the victims even know their items are missing

Investigators have noticed their mode of operation is usually consistent; one of the thieves distracts the victim, while the other steals their personal items.

Authorities say the thieves then wear different disguises to purchase gift cards with the victim's credit cards at various stores.

While many of the crimes are occurring in Pompano Beach, BSO investigators say the crooks have been active for about a year countywide.

Anyone with information on this pickpocketing pair is urged to call Det. Carol Singstock at (954) 786-4242 or Broward County Crimestoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477) or online at Broward Crimestoppers.
