PETA Wants OJ Simpson's Kendall Home For Vegan Museum
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, PETA, has set its sights on OJ Simpson's Miami home for a new museum, a vegan museum to be exact.
According to CNN, PETA'S president Ingrid Newkirk has asked the CEO of JPMorgan Chase to donate or sell the house to PETA for a "nominal sum" once the bank completes the foreclosure it's pursuing on Simpson's home.
The PETA boss apparently wants the five-bedroom Kendall home in order to set up a "Meat is Murder" museum.
PETA said it chose Simpson's home because the former football star actively endorsed the consumption of meat. Simpson, they said, was once a spokesman for and a franchise owner of two chicken restaurants and held an ownership stake in several HoneyBaked Ham stores.
AChase spoksesman said the bank would not comment on the matter.
In addition to educating visitors about the treatment of animals used for meat, the museum would offer free samples of foods made from healthy, plant-based proteins, including veggie burgers and faux chicken.
Simpson is currently serving a prison sentence of up to 33 years for a 2007 armed robbery and kidnapping in Nevada.
Miami-Dade Circuit Court records show that JPMorgan Chase filed for foreclosure in September. Simpson's attorneys have since filed a motion to dismiss the case.
Simpson bought the four-bedroom, four-bath house south of downtown Miami in 2000 for $575,000. Its current assessed value is $478,401.
