FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- A bleeding man rushed into a gas station store pleading for help after he said a man ambushed and stabbed him in front of an ATM Monday morning.
Surveillance video caught the man's entrance. Bleeding and in pain, the 22-year old victim was seen pleading for help - even holding his neck at one point trying to stop the bleeding.
"I'm scared. I've never seen something like that happen," said cashier Osvaldo Alonzo Perez.
The victim was in his car getting money out of the ATM at Bank of America at 3130 West Davie Boulevard when the thief surprised him with a knife in hand, Fort Lauderdale Police said.
That's when the robber allegedly stabbed the man numerous times before running off.
The victim dragged himself out of his car and staggered to the gas station.
"I asked him what happened. He just said call 911. I'm dying," said Perez.
Perez called police and did what he could to help the victim outside the store as he waited for police and paramedics to arrive.
"There was a lot of blood out there," said Perez.
Customers stepped in to help but the pain got to be too much and he collapsed in the parking lot.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with multiple stab wounds. Authorities said they are not life-threatening. He underwent surgery and is expected to survive.
Fort Lauderdale Police said the robber covered his face during the hold up are not releasing further details on a description. It is unclear what the robber got away with if anything.
Kathy and Bob Hauck are regular bank customers who live in the neighborhood. News of the stabbing is unsettling.
"I've never heard of anyone with a knife but I have heard of people being robbed," said Hauck.
Anyone with information is urged to call Broward County Crimestoppers at (954) 493- TIPS.
