Percy Harvin Trade Could Impact Dolphins & Mike Wallace
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (CBSMiami) – Former University of Florida star wide receiver Percy Harvin has been traded by the Minnesota Vikings to the Seattle Seahawks for three draft picks.
The Seahawks will send its first-round and seventh-round pick this year and a mid-round pick next year to Minnesota for the rights to Harvin, according to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer.
Harvin had a troubled four-year career in Minnesota and had reportedly demanded a trade over the weekend. Harvin has been looking for a contract worth $10 million per year at least during his talks with the Vikings.
One team that will be watching the Harvin contract negotiations closely is the Miami Dolphins. The Fins are trying to acquire the top free agent receiver Mike Wallace. If Harvin breaks the bank in Seattle, it's only going to drive up the price of Wallace for the Fins.
Wallace has superior receiving stats over his four-year career, 4,042 yards and 32 touchdowns to Harvin's 3,302 yards and 20 touchdowns.
The trade also helps clear up additional salary cap space for the Vikings to make a serious push for Wallace if the team chooses. Currently, the Vikings have around $20 million in salary cap space to chase Wallace, who could take up more than half of that space.
It's been reported that Wallace prefers a warm weather climate, which will help Miami's chances of landing the speedy receiver.
