Patrons Take On Bowling With Coconuts At Key West Food and Wine Festival
KEY WEST (CBSMiami/KNB) -- Bowling isn't normally meant to be paired with gourmet food and fine wine but when the bowling balls are coconuts, all bets are off. The offbeat pairing was a feature of the Key West Food and Wine Festival that continues through Sunday.
The five-day festival celebrates the island city's culinary scene with events showcasing local chefs' creative flair, indigenous Florida Keys ingredients, premium wines and offbeat "foodie" fun.
On Saturday, at the funky outdoor Blue Heaven Restaurant in Key West's historic Bahama Village, bowlers aimed coconuts with varying degrees of skill at 10 pins shaped like pineapples.
Other festival highlights included an indulgent "bean-to-bar" chocolate experience, a tour and sampling at Key West's recently-opened rum distillery, seminars on topics including the origins of Key lime pie and a waterfront food and wine tasting in Key West's Historic Seaport, formerly the heart of the island's seafood industry.
The edible extravaganza ends Sunday with the Master Chef's Classic, a lavish culinary tasting and competition beside Key West Harbor.
