Passenger At MIA May Be Suffering From Cholera
MIAMI (CBS4) -- South Florida health officials are gathering more information about a passenger, who may be suffering from cholera, landed at Miami International Airport. The passenger was traveling on an American Airlines flight around 6 p.m. Thursday.
According to American Airlines, the plane was traveling from the Dominican Republic to Miami. American also said the passenger was not a doctor, but had been in Haiti in recent days and weeks. The passenger believed he had contracted the disease while treating patients in Haiti.
Thousands of Haitians have been battling the disease for the last few months as doctors tried to contain it in the earthquake-ravaged country.
The Herald reported that neither the Centers for Disease Control, nor the Florida Department of Health, could confirm a possible case of cholera in Miami.
If the disease is confirmed, it would be the first case in Miami-Dade County and third in Florida in recent months.
