Participants Gather At Marlins Park To Make Strides Against Breast Cancer
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) – Breast cancer, according to the Cancer Society, is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. Saturday, hundreds of teams will walk around Marlins Park with the common goal of helping to find a cure.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is a walk backed by the American Cancer Society that will feature entertainment for the more than 300 teams participating in Saturday's walk.
The walk, which encourages women to "show off your pink" begins at 9 am.
According to the Cancer Society, the event is part of the national series of events that began in 1984, when cancer survivor Margery Gould Rath decided to raise funds for the Society. The first walk was in Boston. Since then, nearly 300 communities around the country have hosted these events.
