Parking Is A Winner At Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) -Parking at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood is about to become a bit easier after the "smashing" grand opening of its brand new Winner's Way Parking Garage.
In celebration of Wednesday's grand opening, the Seminole Hard Rock set the record for the "World's Largest Guitar Smash,".
It is the first entry of its kind into the Guinness Book of World Records.
Wednesday night, 1,914 people smashed real acoustic guitars just outside the new garage. CBS4's Jawan Strader and Marybel Rodriguez helped set the record.
The Hard Rock's initial goal was 2,400 guitars, to represent the 2,400 new parking spaces.
Huey Lewis and The News helped inaugurate the new garage. The Guitar Smash was followed by a fireworks display.
The 9-story "Winner's Way" garage provides an additional 2,400 covered parking spaces. It has 14 elevators, six escalators, a 351-foot-tall pedestrian bridge, a 164-foot-tall Casino bridge, and a car count system, all in a brightly lit environment.
The new garage also takes care of high rollers by offering seven private parking spots that have a door shut behind the car. An elevator can be accessed with a keypad and personal ID number.
Overall garage security includes a police patrol on bicycles, 160 cameras and a "blue light" system where visitors who sense trouble can push a button to contact security. A camera immediately focuses on the button-pusher as help is dispatched.
The opening of the new garage also gives the Hard Rock a chance to give back to the community.
As part of Wednesday's ceremony, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will donate guitars worth $50,000 to the music programs of public schools in Miami-Dade County, Broward County and Palm Bea
ch County. The funds will be used to purchase a new guitar for every public and charter school in all three counties.
In addition, the smashed guitar pieces will be contributed to the Ann Storck Center of Plantation, where adults with disabilities will be able to create original sculptures, decorative home accents and other works of art as part of the Ann Storck Center Fine Art program. The artwork will be available for purchase as "Smashed GuitART" and all proceeds will help support the fine art program to enable Ann Storck Center residents to continue to discover abilities and build independence.
