Panthers Still Searching For Goalie Depth
SUNRISE (CBSMiami) - The Florida Panthers begin training camp on Thursday and general manager Dale Tallon hasn't stopped looking for goalies who might help the team in 2013.
Tallon confirmed Wednesday that he had "inquired" about veteran goalies Tim Thomas, Ilya Bryzgalov, and Jose Theodore for their availability for a training camp tryout, according to NHL.com.
"Obviously if there's anything happening, we'd like to have it sooner [rather] than later," Tallon told NHL.com. "There's really no time limit, just sooner would be better. We're doing our homework. We're investigating. We'll do what's best for everyone involved."
The Panthers have starting goalie Jacob Markstrom under contract, but veteran goalie Scott Clemmensen had knee surgery last week and may not be ready until late September.
Theodore wasn't resigned by the Panthers and became a free agent over the summer. Thomas didn't play in the NHL last season.
The Panthers are hoping for big things from their young talent in 2013. The Panthers will be led by forward Jonathan Huberdeau and also hope for a breakout season by 2013 draft pick, Alexsander Barkov.
