Panthers Prep For Scrimmage Wednesday Night
SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – The Florida Panthers have only been in training camp since Monday, but with no preseason games; the team will hold a scrimmage Wednesday night to prepare for Saturday's opening game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
According to the Panthers' official website, the squad will be split into two teams with the scrimmage set to start at 7 p.m. The scrimmage will have refs, but head coach Kevin Dineen hasn't decided if it's going to be a full scrimmage.
CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald reported that both goalies, Jose Theodore and Scott Clemmensen would see "extensive action" during Wednesday's scrimmage at the Iceplex in Coral Springs.
The Panthers will be looking to improve in several key areas like overtime shootouts and overtime play in general. Last year, according to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, the Panthers were 6-11 in shootout games.
Florida hopes to have addressed that problem with more skilled forwards including Alex Kovalev, Peter Mueller, and rookie sensation Jonathan Huberdeau. The rookie dominated in the junior leagues and could move into a second line job or better by the end of camp.
According to the Herald, the Panthers haven't come to an agreement with Dmitry Kulikov. Panthers management said they are continuing to work towards a deal and hope one will get completed in the next few days.
