Panthers' Luongo, Ekblad Selected To NHL All-Star Weekend

SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – The Florida Panthers strong first half of the season has not gone unnoticed.
Two of the Panthers key players will be making the trip to Columbus for the annual All-Star Weekend later this month.
Goaltender Roberto Luongo and rookie defenseman Aaron Ekblad will represent Florida in the All-Star Game and the Skills Competition, respectively.
Luongo will make his fourth career All-Star appearance and second as a member of the Panthers. So far this season Luongo has compiled a record of 16-7-7, ranking sixth in the league in save percentage (.926) and ninth in goals against average (2.23).
Ekblad was selected to participate in the All-Star Skills Competition which takes place the day before the All-Star Game. He is one of just six rookies chosen to participate.
Selected with the first overall pick of the 2014 NHL Draft, Ekblad leads all rookie defenseman and Panthers defenseman with 23 points (5 goals, 18 assits).
He also ranks third in scoring amongst NHL rookies and leads the Panthers with a +11 rating.
The 2015 NHL All-Star Weekend will take place at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The All-Star Skills Competition will be held on Saturday, January 24 with the All-Star Game being played on Sunday, January 25.
